Three police officers and five security guards have been charged with burglary.

The officers identified as Philip Thuo Kangethe, Shadrack Josiah Mumo and Joseph Ndiku Mwongela are accused of breaking into a warehouse in Nairobi and stealing.

The men in uniform are alleged to have colluded with Simon Ong’ori, Martin Otabu, Wycliffe Chanyi, Daniel Kioko Ngozi and David Njogu Mwaniki to steal property belonging to Nabico Enterprises Limited.

The property valued at Sh900,178 include 7,224 pieces of Genie energy saving lamps and 320 top plugs.

The accused also faced an alternative charge of handling stolen property.

According to a police report, the suspects were arrested after a tip off from members of the public.

One of the officers is said to have attempted to escape arrest by identifying himself as a police officer but his tricks didn’t pay off.

The accused denied the charges leveled against them and were released on Sh500,000 bond each. The matter will be heard on June 20.
