    Three Suspects Gunned Down For Kidnapping UN Official

    Police on Monday shot dead three people suspected of hijacking a United Nations (UN) official at Mukuyuni area in Machakos County.

    According to Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the three were in a group of five, two others managed to escape unhurt.

    Th DCI reports that the five were masquerading as traffic police offcers along Machakos – Kitui Road.

    They are said to have fired at police officers who commanded them to surrender, prompting the officers to open fire.

    “The 5men were performing Traffic duties along Machakos-Kitui Rd when Detectives commanded them to surrender-instead they fired at the officers. 2Escaped;Pistol, ammunitions & Vehicle recovered,” DCI said.

    Detectives managed to rescue the UN official who was handcuffed by the suspected robbers.

    Further reports from the police indicate the suspects have been involved in a series of crimes in the past.

    “The thugs have been impersonating Traffic Police Officers along the major roads before handcuffing their victims & stealing their motor vehicles. #DCI Detectives have been following them based on information received from their previous victims & were cornered today at Makuyuni,” DCI added.

    During the incident, police recovered from the scene of crime a pistol, several round of ammunition, traffic police uniform and a vehicle the suspects were using.

    Police have launched a man-hunt for the other two suspects who are still at large.
