Two children aged five and one year drowned after falling into a neglected pit containing sewage materials in Kowuor village, Rongo, Migori County.

Police said the bodies were discovered on Sunday morning floating in the pit, located at a plot belonging to a local.

The children had reportedly travelled from Masara area in Suna West with their mother to visit their grandmother on Saturday.

A villager discovered the tragedy after noticing a pink sandal floating in the pit. He raised the alarm, prompting members of the public and the area assistant chief to respond and retrieve the children’s bodies.

Police officers who visited and processed the scene said the bodies had no visible physical injuries.

The bodies were moved to Rosewood Mortuary pending autopsy as investigations into the incident continue.

And police have launched investigations after the body of an unidentified woman was found submerged in Githunguri River in Ruai, Nairobi.

The body of the woman, believed to be aged between 35 and 40, was discovered by members of the public at about 9am on Sunday along the power line in the Ruai Valley View area.

Police officers from Ruai Police Station and DCI personnel visited and processed the scene.

The woman was found submerged in the river with visible injuries to her head, raising suspicion that she may have been murdered.

Investigators recovered several items at the scene, including a bottle of water, a beer bottle and human hair believed to be linked to the deceased.

The body was moved to the City Mortuary for preservation, identification and postmortem examination.

Police have launched investigations to establish the identity of the woman and circumstances surrounding her death.
