Police in Migori County have arrested two suspects after a man was found in possession of a firearm during a football match at Sony Green Stadium in Awendo.

In a statement, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the incident occurred during a match between Migori Youth FC and Equity Bank FC when a man identified as Godfrey Otieno, alias “Daddy,” allegedly attempted to access the VIP section of the stadium.

Security officers on duty intercepted him and attempted to restrain him. During the confrontation, Otieno allegedly produced a firearm, prompting officers to act swiftly and disarm him before the situation escalated.

Police recovered a CZ pistol loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition from the suspect. Investigations further revealed that Otieno was allegedly posing as a member of the Kenya Defence Forces.

Preliminary investigations established that the firearm belonged to Peter Jobando, a licensed civilian firearm holder who later presented himself at the scene.

According to the DCI, Jobando admitted that he had handed the firearm to Otieno. He was subsequently arrested for allegedly allowing an unauthorized person to possess a firearm.

“Both suspects are now in police custody undergoing processing pending arraignment. Meanwhile, the pistol has been secured as an exhibit in the ongoing investigation,” the DCI said.

Police said investigations into the incident are ongoing.
