Two young children drowned after they were found floating in a pond in Kimoriot Location, Baringo County.

The bodies of the boy aged two, and girl aged three, were discovered on October 5, 2026, at about 4pm.

According to police, the bodies were found floating in a pond by locals.

The children’s bodies were retrieved from the pond and moved to Nyahururu Hospital Mortuary for preservation pending postmortem examinations.

Police investigations into the circumstances leading to the children’s deaths are ongoing.

The incident was among about five that were reported on Monday alone, police said.

Elsewhere, a five-year-old girl drowned while swimming with her friends in Nyangore River in Kuria West, Migori County.

The incident was reported at about 4:14pm on October 5, 2026.

According to police, the girl was swimming with her friends when she accidentally drowned. Her friends raised an alarm, attracting the attention of a passerby.

A man rushed to the river and attempted to rescue the child. However, by the time he pulled her from the water, she was already lifeless.

Police officers from Isebania Police Station and DCI personnel, led by the OCS, visited the scene and confirmed the incident.

The girl, a PP1 pupil at Nyangore Primary School, was found lying beside the river with no visible physical injuries.

Preliminary investigations indicated that she drowned while swimming with her friends.

The scene was secured, photographed and documented before the body was moved to Akidiva Mindira Hospital Mortuary, where it is being preserved pending an autopsy.

And a 24-year-old man was found dead after his body was spotted floating in the Sondu-Miriu River near Agai Secondary School in Nyakach, Kisumu County.

The body was discovered on October 5, 2026, at about 8pm, according to police.

The deceased was identified by a relative as Denis Kipsang Kemboi, from Kimoson Village in Kaplelaret Sub-Location, Kericho County.

Police retrieved the body from the river and processed and documented the scene.

The remains were taken to Sigowet Mortuary pending an autopsy to establish the cause and circumstances of death.

Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Meanwhile, a 29-year-old man drowned in Ndarugu River in Juja, Kiambu County, after reportedly going to take a bath at a deep section of the river.

The deceased, identified as Peter Kinungi, was a conductor working with a lorry operating in the Athi village area.

According to police, Kinungi disappeared on Saturday, October 3, after his driver, left him in the vehicle while he went to have lunch.

When he returned, he could not find Kinungi and attempts to reach him on his phone went unanswered.

On Monday, October 5, the driver received information that a body had been spotted in Ndarugu River. He proceeded to the scene, where he identified the body as that of Kinungi.

Police said the deceased had reportedly gone to bathe at the river, at a section estimated to be about 20 feet deep.

Investigators believe Kinungi may have slipped and fallen into the river, drowning without anyone nearby to rescue him.

CSI officers processed and documented the scene before the body was retrieved and taken to Thika General Kago Mortuary for preservation pending a postmortem examination.
