Two journalists were Saturday assaulted and seriously wounded by goons hired to man a building on a grabbed land in Chokaa, Nairobi.
The goons did not want their images be seen while they were at the site, witnesses said.
Victor Mogoa of K24 and Fred Mochama of KBC were on the coverage as residents took to the streets blaming the developer for grabbing public land.
They however did not know what was waiting for them.
Goons hired by the developer attacked the journalists and disappeared with their equipments including cameras, a tripod, and mobile phones.
They were also assaulted during the drama.
They were later rushed to Mama Lucy Hospital for treatment with serious injuries.
The developer identified as Lucy Gateri, an employee of a state agency has made life unbearable to the residents of Chokaa as the grabbed public land has caused a poor drainage system that has made several locals to vacate their houses.
The locals were calling for action to take back the land for public use and proper drainage system.
Residents urged both the county and national government to come to their rescue as the developer is said to have colluded with the local administration hence no help they can get from them.
They blamed the office that did subdivisions of the area as they have turned on selling roads and public spaces.
“The concerned parties should come and help this issue. We will keep on pushing for action,” said one of those in the protests.
The incident was reported to Ruai police station as the journalists continue to receive treatment.
Police said they are investigating the incident.
Cases of land grabbing and disputes which turn violent have been on the rise in the area.
