Police are investigating a shocking murder-suicide incident in Maraba, Kakamega Central that left the community in grief.

The incident involved a university student and another man. Both bodies were found in the same house and the motive is yet to be established, police said on Tuesday.

Relatives of one of the victims, 21-year-old identified as Dariel Jedidah Luvunga, a third-year student at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) said they last spoke to him on the evening of March 8, 2026.

The following day, repeated attempts to contact Dariel were unsuccessful.

On March 10, the relatives visited the residence and discovered the door locked from the inside, police said.

Peeking through a small opening, they saw someone lying on the floor. Police were alerted and responded to the scene, forcibly entering the house.

Inside, they found two lifeless bodies, one male adult lying on the floor with multiple injuries to the head and stomach, and another hanging in the bathroom.

The hanging body was confirmed to be Dariel. A blood-stained kitchen knife was recovered at the scene.

Authorities noted that no suicide note was left, and the motive remains unknown.

Both bodies were transported to Kakamega General Hospital Mortuary for postmortem examination and identification. The investigation is ongoing.

Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities while investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.

Elsewhere, a 79-year-old man was fatally stabbed by his daughter in a shocking incident in Chamasilihi Village, Mbale Sub-Location on Tuesday.

Police confirmed the death of Mundanya Hezron Madaga.

Witnesses stated that the suspect, a woman aged 43, stabbed her father in the neck, resulting in fatal bleeding, before fleeing the scene. The motive behind the attack remains unknown.

Police visited the scene and moved the deceased’s body to Vihiga Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary for preservation and autopsy. Authorities have launched efforts to apprehend the suspect.
