Police are investigating an incident in which a 32-year-old woman died inside a church in Mark Tosha Village, Malindi Sub-County, Kilifi County, where she had been taken for prayers due to illness.
The deceased, identified as Kadzo Nzaro Kalama, was found unresponsive at about 6 am on Thursday inside Emmanuel Church.
According to police, the woman had spent the night at the church with a female pastor and other people who had gathered for prayers.
The pastor discovered Kalama unresponsive and raised the alarm. Officers from Malindi Police Station and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations visited the scene and found her lying on a mattress inside the church.
Police said there were no visible physical injuries on her body.
Crime Scene Investigation officers from Malindi documented the scene before the body was removed to Malindi Sub-County Hospital, pending further examination to establish the cause of death.
And an unidentified man has been found dead at a shop verandah at Mabati Mbili along the Rongo-Homa Bay highway in Ndhiwa East, Homa Bay County.
The body was discovered after the man, who was believed to be of unsound mind, reportedly sought shelter from the rain at the verandah of one of the shops..
The body was removed to Ndhiwa Sub-County Mortuary for preservation pending an autopsy to establish the cause of death and further efforts to establish his identity.
Meanwhile, a 32-year-old man has died after sustaining a deep cut to the right side of his head in an assault incident in Teso Central, Busia County.
The deceased, identified as James Emoit Teso, was rushed to St Joseph Mission Hospital in Amukura at around 11pm on Wednesday after he was found injured near Kamarinyang Primary School.
Police said the man was taken to the hospital by a Good Samaritan and was treated for a deep cut before being referred for a head scan. However, his condition later deteriorated and he died at about 2am on Thursday while undergoing treatment.
Police processed and documented the scene, while the deceased’s body was moved to Alupe University Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the assault and death are ongoing.
