Police in Ruiru, Kiambu County, are investigating the murder of a 40-year-old woman who was found lying in a pool of blood inside her bedroom.

Mercy Wanjiku Maina was discovered dead on October 14, after her family members opened her bedroom at around 10am and found her body on a mattress.

A team of officers responding to the incident found the woman lying on her back in a pool of blood in Room Four on the ground floor of an unmarked building.

The deceased had multiple stab wounds on her chest and arms.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Wanjiku had reportedly disagreed with her current husband, identified as Japhet Mukiri, over her former husband on October 13.

The two are said to have spent the night together following the disagreement.

A bloodstained knife, suspected to have been used in the killing, was recovered at the scene.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Ruiru processed the scene, while crime scene investigators documented the evidence.

The body was subsequently moved to Kenyatta University Funeral Home for preservation and a postmortem examination.

Police said efforts to trace the perpetrator were ongoing as investigations continued to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing.

And police in Kisii South Sub-County are investigating the murder of a 63-year-old bar watchman who was found dead following a break-in at a drinking establishment in Itibo Village.

John Ngige Mamu, who worked as a watchman at B.N.M Bar in Bonyaoro Location, was found lying lifeless on a wooden bench with multiple deep cut wounds on his head, face and mouth.

The incident, which is believed to have occurred during the night of October 13 and 14, was reported to Suneka Police Station on Wednesday, October 14.

Preliminary investigations indicate that an unknown number of attackers broke into the bar after forcing open the counter door.

The assailants reportedly stole two mobile phones, an Itel and a Tecno, alongside assorted alcoholic drinks valued at Sh27,420.

The stolen alcohol comprised seven 750ml bottles of vodka and 42 bottles of 250ml vodka.

Police also recovered two broken padlocks, identified as Tri-Circle models 264 and 263, at the scene.

The scene was processed by investigators before Mamu’s body was moved to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination.

Investigations are ongoing as police seek to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing and identify those responsible for the murder and theft.
