We Won’t Hand Gor Mahia The League In The Mashemeji Derby – Leopards Coach Cassa Mbungo

AFC Leopards coach Andre Cassa Mbungo has declared that he won’t be the one to hand Gor Mahia their eminent 18th Kenyan Premier League title.

The two arch rivals clash on Sunday in the Mashemeji Derby at the Kasarani Stadium and a win for Gor Mahia, who are comfortably leading the table with just four rounds to go, will inch even closer to the finish line, something the Rwandan gaffer is not ready for.

Mbungo already lost his first Mashemeji Derby, going down 2-0 in the first leg of the biggest derby in the Kenya’s topflight but he is ready to make amends come Sunday.

“Gor Mahia has done better this season and I think they will win the league but we don’t want this particular game to be the one that gives them the title. This is a derby and the 90 minutes will be what determines the winner,” Andre told KPL.

Gor Mahia’s 17th title last season was sealed after they beat Leopards 2-0 in the second leg of the Mashemeji Derby.

Their coach Hasan Oktay is upbeat that they can pick another three points against as he looks to win his first major title in Africa.

“The preparations have been very good ahead of the game. The lads are in good shape and I’m optimistic we shall have a good game,” Oktay said.

“I know AFC Leopards recruited well during the mid-season and they have a good team but this is a derby and we are going to fight for the three points,” the Turkish Cypriot concluded.
