Tanzania’s Zamtel has moved from 100, 000 to a million customers in less than 12 months. Information posted on Zambian Watchdog website quotes Zamtel Chief Commercial Officer, Amon Jere, attributing the one million milestone to the leadership.

Zamtel has over the past 12 months been investing on network expansion. The firm has increased its GSM bases stations from 261 sites to over 400 with over 250 new sites in key cities being 3G enabled.

Zamtel was the last of the three mobile operators to launch mobile services in 2003. 75% of the former state corporation was divested to Libya’s LAP Green Network

The company also invested in expanding its network core,  a new billing system, a new ISP core among others.
