    Siblings

Bernard has one sister named Dominique Watine-Arnault.

She has largely maintained a low profile compared to her brother, who is a prominent figure in the luxury goods industry.

Dominique has been involved in various charitable activities and is known to support her brother’s ventures, although specific details about her professional life and personal endeavors are not widely publicized.

    Career

Arnault began his career in 1971 at his father’s construction company, Ferret-Savinel, after earning a degree from the École Polytechnique.

By 1978, he had become president of the company, focusing on real estate development and construction.

His entry into the luxury goods sector came in 1984 when he acquired the struggling textile company Boussac Saint-Frères, which owned the luxury brand Christian Dior.

This acquisition marked a significant turning point in his career, as he successfully turned around the company by selling off non-core assets and concentrating on its luxury brands.

In 1987, Arnault played a pivotal role in the merger of Louis Vuitton and Moët Hennessy, creating LVMH (Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy).

He became the largest shareholder and chairman of this new conglomerate.

Under his leadership, LVMH expanded through numerous strategic acquisitions, including Givenchy in 1988, Céline in 1996, Fendi in 2001, Marc Jacobs in 1997, and Tiffany & Co. in 2020.

Arnault diversified LVMH’s portfolio beyond fashion and leather goods to include wines, spirits, perfumes, cosmetics, watches, and jewelry.

He emphasized brand prestige and exclusivity, which helped LVMH maintain high profit margins.

As of 2023, LVMH reported revenues of approximately €86.2 billion, solidifying its position as the largest luxury goods conglomerate in the world.

Arnault is known for his meticulous attention to detail and a hands-on approach to management; he often collaborates closely with designers and executives to ensure brand integrity.
