A man was lynched by a mob moments after he had been linked to the murder of his mother in a village in Samia, Busia County.

The deceased woman was identified as Rosalia Auma Obonyo, 89 while her son who was lynched by a mob was identified as Ernest Mudivo, 69.

The body of the woman was found outside her house by locals who mobilized and pursued Mudivo moments later on Monday.

Mudivo was stoned to death a few meters away from where the body of his mother lay, police said. The motive of the murder was not immediately established.

The bodies were moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other investigations.

Police discourage mob lynching and want suspects to be surrendered to authorities for processing and possible prosecution. Cases of mob lynching have been on the rise amid efforts to address the trend.

Elsewhere in Wagai, Siaya County, the naked body of Evans Kibet, 21 was found lying next to a tree after suspected murder.

The body was covered by branches of a tree. Police said they are investigating the murder of the man. The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy. No arrest has been made in connection with the murder, police said.

And detectives are investigating an incident where a man died in a fire in Malili area, Salama, Makueni County.

The fire broke out in a house near Cool Breeze Restaurant in the center.

The victim was in an iron sheet made house when the fire broke out and killed him, police said.

Police said they were unable to identify the remains of the man. The body was moved to the mortuary pending an identification and autopsy. The cause of the fire was not known, police said adding an investigation had been opened.
