The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has reaffirmed its commitment to tackling digital and financial crimes through partnerships with key industry players, following the successful completion of the M-KOPA
Advanced Criminal Investigations Course at the National Criminal Investigations Academy (NCIA).
The partnership between the DCI and M-KOPA underscores the growing importance of public-private cooperation in combating sophisticated financial crimes, as fraudsters increasingly exploit technology to target individuals and institutions.
The two-week intensive programme brought together detectives from across the country for advanced training in the investigation of complex digital fraud cases. Participants were exposed to modern investigative techniques, data analysis tools, and countermeasures designed to address emerging forms of online and financial crime.
There has been a rise in fraud in the sector.
Speaking during the closing ceremony, the DCI’s Director of Forensics, Rosemary Kuraru, who represented the Director of Criminal Investigations, commended the detectives for their dedication and urged them to apply the knowledge gained to enhance the Directorate’s operational efficiency.
“The fight against financial and digital crimes requires constant innovation and capacity building,” Kuraru said.
“We are grateful to M-KOPA for their partnership and continued support in strengthening our investigative capabilities.”
M-KOPA’s Director of Credit Sara Magarita attended the ceremony on behalf of the company, reaffirming M-KOPA’s commitment to working with law enforcement agencies to safeguard customers and financial systems from fraud.
NCIA Commandant Sospeter Munyi also lauded the participants for their active engagement throughout the course. He encouraged them to translate the skills acquired into tangible improvements in investigative work, noting that such collaborations are vital in the evolving fight against cyber-enabled crimes.
Meanwhile, the Director of Criminal Investigations, Mohammed Amin, officially opened the newly established DCI offices at Bamburi Police Station in Mombasa County.
The new facility will serve Kisauni Sub-County and its surrounding areas, significantly enhancing accessibility to investigative services in the area.

He urged officers stationed at the new facility to discharge their duties with utmost professionalism, integrity, and adherence to the rule of law.
