A one-year-old boy was killed in a fire incident in Etago area, Kisii County.

His brother aged four was rescued in the Friday December 5 incident. Police said the parents of the children had locked them therein and left to a local market for errands.

The fire broke out burning down the house and the child.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known, police said as they moved the remains to the mortuary for autopsy amid investigations.

Elsewhere in Keroka, Nyamira County, police are investigating an incident where a man was fatally assaulted and his body dumped near their house.

Police said Josek Nyakwara, 41 was assaulted by unknown people who later dumped him along Eronge-Mochenwa road. He was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to the injuries.

An autopsy on the body confirmed he died due to haematoma due to blunt force to the head.

The hunt for the said assailants in the murder which occurred on December 4 is ongoing, police said on Sunday December 7.

In Adungosi area, Busia County, a suspect was lynched by a mob in a failed robbery incident. This was after the suspect was on Friday accused of stealing a motorcycle in the area.

Police said they found his body at the scene long after the incident had happened. The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures. Police discourage mob lynching and want suspects to be surrendered to authorities for processing and other procedures.

Cases of mob lynching have been on the rise in both urban and rural areas in an alarming rate. Police say up to three cases are reported daily in the trend amid a campaign to stop the same.

Some of the suspects are framed up and killed over land and other interests, police investigations have shown.
