Two men were found dead after an electrocution incident in a village in Kamagambo, Rongo, Migori County.

Police said the incident was discovered on April 2 after it had happened in Marera village.

A team of police and officials from Kenya Power and Lighting visited the scene and found the bodies of the two lying with no visible injuries and overhead transmission wires which were about 10 meters long.

It was established that the two had been seen on the previous day in the evening while trying to illegally connect power to homes.

The bodies were moved to the mortuary pending an identification and autopsy.

Police said they were investigating the tragedy. Such incidents have been on the rise in villages and urban areas with authorities linking them to illegal power connections and use of quacks for wiring.

The deceased identified as Shadrack Cheruiyot, 40 had gone to a kiosk and asked for food on Thursday afternoon. He suddenly developed breathing challenges and collapsed.

Police said he died outside the kiosk as locals debated on what to do with him.

The victim had been at work at a nearby construction site and had broken for lunch when the incident happened.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.

Meanwhile, 13 people died in separate road accidents on Thursday night.

Police said the victims included six pedestrians, three riders, two drivers, a pillion passenger and a pedal cyclist.

The accidents left at least 24 people with serious injuries, police said.
