    Earnings

Although Pete Best missed out on the global success of The Beatles, his financial situation improved significantly in the 1990s. His wealth primarily comes from:

    • Royalties from early Beatles recordings
    • Live performances and later music projects
    • Beatles-related business ventures and appearances

For many years, Best earned little from the band’s success, but that changed with the release of Anthology 1 in 1995. The compilation included tracks featuring his drumming and reportedly earned him between £1 million and £4 million (roughly $3–12 million today).

    Time with The Beatles

Best served as The Beatles’ drummer from 1960 to 1962, playing alongside John Lennon, Paul McCartney, and George Harrison during their formative years.

In August 1962, he was dismissed from the band and replaced by Ringo Starr—just months before the group achieved mainstream success with “Please Please Me” and the onset of Beatlemania.

    Life After The Beatles

Following his exit, Best briefly continued in music with bands like Lee Curtis & the All-Stars and later formed The Pete Best Combo. However, he never matched the success of his former bandmates.

By the late 1960s, he stepped away from music entirely and worked for nearly two decades as a civil servant in Liverpool. During this period, he faced personal struggles, including depression, as The Beatles rose to global superstardom.

    Return to Music

Best’s fortunes changed in the late 1980s and 1990s when he returned to performing and embraced his place in Beatles history. The success of Anthology 1 provided a financial boost and renewed public interest in his story.

He later formed the Pete Best Band, performed internationally, and released his autobiography, rebuilding both his career and public image.

    The Casbah Coffee Club Legacy

One of Best’s most unique assets is his family home in Liverpool, which houses the historic Casbah Coffee Club. Opened by his mother in 1959, the venue hosted early performances by The Beatles (then known as The Quarrymen).

In recent years, Best and his family have transformed the property into a Beatles-themed accommodation, preserving its legacy while generating income through tourism.
