Deputy President William Ruto has denied reports that the government lost Sh21 billion in Arror and Kimwarer dam projects in Elgeyo-Marakwet County.
Speaking on Thursday during the launch of a report on the state of Judiciary in Nairobi, Dr Ruto said the amount in question is only Sh7 billion.
“You’ve heard that government has lost about Sh21 billion in Kimwarer and Aror dam, which is a flat lie!” said Dr Ruto.
“The money in question is about Sh7 billion and for every coin that has been paid, we have a bank guarantee. No money will be lost because we are a responsible government.”
DP Ruto reiterated that the government had engaged every arm of the government to ensure public funds are safe.
He urged the public to desist from making claims that don’t hold water.
“It is not right to claim Sh9 billion has been lost then when going to court a person is charged with loss of Sh100 million. Kenyans then ask where is the other 8.9 billion. Let us be faithful,” he said.
“I thought that I should say this so that the narrative being built that everything that the government is doing is corrupt… we must be sincere and honest.”
Dr Ruto stated that there is a renewed energy in fighting corruption in the country from the Executive, Legislature and the Judiciary to fight corruption.

His comments comes a day after his aid Ken Osinde was put on the DCI radar after a company he is associated with is suspected to have played a role in the multi-billion tenders for construction of Kimwarer and Arror dams in Elgeyo Marakwet.
According to local media reports, Ken Osinde is listed as a director of Sanlam Company, which is part of the 107 whose directors have been summoned to record statements with the police.
Detectives are probing why the firm was paid Sh47 million by allegedly broke Italian firm CMC di Ravenna – which is said to have pocketed billions of taxpayers’ cash for work not done.
