A Kenyan female robber, who is on Interpol’s watch-list has been arrested at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) as she waited to fly out to Dar-es-Salaam.

The robber, regarded as a gang queen, is mentioned to have been a notorious robber who was arrested on Thursday night after detectives trailed her to the airport.

An officer stated: “We trailed her for more than one month without raising any eyebrows and we are also planning to make more arrests. We are now targeting her accomplices.”

According to an officer privy to the investigations, Ms Margaret Waithira Kamande entered the list of Interpol wanted criminals after she snubbed bail that was granted by a Zimbabwean court in burglary offence.

Reports indicate that she was later arrested in a Tanzanian nightclub.

At the time, she was found in possession of door master keys, bunches of house keys and a crowbar that police in Zimbabwe believed was used to break into doors.

In a statement issued by the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI), the detectives mentioned: “She is also wanted by Interpol, Zimbabwe & other East African countries after she jumped bail which was granted by a Zimbabwean court in offences related to burglary and stealing. She had been on the run until her arrest.”

According to the DCI, Ms Kamande was intending to flee the country after being tipped of her possible arrest.

“Ms Margaret Waithira Kamande, a notorious house breaker was today arrested by DCI Detectives while trying to board a flight to Dar es salaam,” the DCI stated.

The robber is believed to have had her gang focus their crime region in Lang’ata, Kilimani, Kileleshwa and Lavington.

Kamande has in the past been captured on camera breaking into apartments and offices in Nairobi.

Speaking on her gang, an officer stated: “It’s a well-structured gang that had succeeded in conducting deadly robberies that at times included the use of a gun when things went out of hand.”
