Auditor General  Edward Ouko has made some unusual discoveries upon audit of Murang’a and Embu counties.

Under Murang’a governor’s Mwangi Wa Iria regime, county funds have been squandered without availing supporting documents to illustrate expenditure.

An erroneous amount of about 6.9 million was spent to conduct a baseline survey on Drug abuse and the prevalence of male circumcision in the county.

The Auditor General mused over how a cultural and often family issue would need a survey on prevalence and the importance of the same to the County as there was no explanation on the same.

Another questionable amount of Sh. 45 million was spent on purchase of drugs from a non-governmental organization based in the United States Of America. There was no evidence of the purchased drugs and no supporting documents to establish the procurement process that was involved in the purchase.

It is alleged that the NGO had donated the drugs and had not received any money from Murang’a county.

In Embu county the auditor general noticed that there was evidence of issuance of licenses for liquor stores and bars but there were no bank documents to reconcile the number of licenses that were issued  against money received.
