The four were Wednesday arrested in a police operation for gaining access to Kenya disingenuously. At least two people were shot and wounded in a failed kidnapping drama in Lari area, Limuru, Kiambu County. The victims included the owner of a car that had apparently been carjacked from Langata in Nairobi up to Kimende on the Nakuru-Nairobi highway, police said. A leading commander of the Kenya Army Thursday September 14 visited Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) troops stationed at Baure Forward Operating Base in Lamu County as part of morale boosting. The Mlolongo hairdresser Jane Mwende Mwanzia was strangled, a postmortem done on the body revealed. The autopsy conducted at Montezuma Monalisa Mortuary in Machakos town on Thursday evening indicated that 29-year-old died from asphyxiation, caused by manual neck compression. A family spokesman said pathologists told them Mwende was strangled using a piece of clothe. “The killers used a piece of cloth to compress her neck to death,” said the spokesman John Mutuku. The Independent Policing Oversight Authority joined a probe into claims a suspect died in a police cell in Gilgil by hanging himself using a lace from his hood. Police had reported 21 year old Danson Kahuria Gitau alias Kabro died by suicide at the Kiptangwanyi police post on September 12. At least 128 cases of extrajudicial killings have been recorded in Kenya in the past 11 months, the Independent Medico-Legal Unit (IMLU) has said. In a report released on Thursday, the body said the cases were recorded between October 2022 and August 2023. According to the report, cases of torture and related violations (TRVs) doubled within the said period compared to previous years. The cases, IMLU said, jumped from 232 to 482. “This marks a staggering increase of 250 cases increase compared to the 232 violations reported in a similar period of 2021-2022,” it said.
