In her ruling on Thursday, Milimani Law Courts Judge Stella Mutuku ruled that Ms Wairimu’s representation by the lawyer doesn’t raise conflict of interest issues in the case. Betting firm, SportPesa, has sent home at least 400 employees days after it announced the closure of its business in the country. Ronald Karuri, the firm CEO, on Wednesday, stated that their services were no longer tenable following harsh government regulations. Karuri announced last week that SportPesa won’t resume its services until the government scraps the 20% exercise tax imposed on all stakes. Three police officers were on Wednesday morning arrested over possession of 245 Kilograms of bhang. According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the officers were arrested while transporting the substance near Kanyonyoo Market along Garissa – Thika Highway. They were identified as Constable Japhet Fondo, Constable Bob Otieno and APC Michael Mwangi. During the operation led by a multi-agency team, police impounded a government vehicle — Toyota Landcruiser — that the officers were using to transport the bhang. The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) has declared 7,386,000 pieces of the Ksh1000 old currency banknotes, that were not exchanged by the September 30 deadline, worthless pieces of paper. In a statement on Wednesday, CBK Governor Patrick Njoroge noted that the monetary authority collected 209,661,000 pieces of the old Sh1,000 notes (Ksh209 billion) by the end of the deadline. He noted that as at June 1, there were 217,047,000 pieces of the old Ksh1,000 banknotes in circulation, meaning CBK locked out Ksh7.3 billion in the old Ksh1000 notes phase-out. “This means Ksh7,386,000,000 became worthless pieces of paper, ” said Njoroge.…

Five people lost their lives on Tuesday night after a grisly road accident along Kang’undo Road, Nairobi. Several other people sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Mama Lucy Hospital. Reports indicate that the accident that involved three vehicles occurred at Kamulu area, which is known to be a black spot. A Toyota Probox is said to have collided head-on with a bus belonging to the Kenya Bus Services (KBS) which in turn hit a pickup. Monica Okoth, the widow of the late Kibra MP Ken Okoth, has finally accepted DNA results that confirmed the lawmaker fathered Anne Thumbi’s son. The widow, Thumbi and Ken Okoth’s mother Angelina Ajwang’, through their lawyers, have consented to have the case closed. The application was filed in a Nairobi court on Tuesday. A prisoner died on Tuesday morning after Embu prison vehicle that was ferrying inmates to Meru was involved in an accident near Thuci River along the Chuka-Embu Highway. The accident also left eight prisoners and seven warders, who were escorting the inmates, with serious injuries. Three suspected terrorists were on Tuesday morning gunned down by officers drawn from the Recce Squad and anti-terror police unit in Likoni area, Mombasa. Chaotic scenes were reportedly witnessed at Kamiti Maximum Prison on Monday morning following a confrontation between warders and inmates. It’s reported that the mayhem began when inmates resisted orders to surrender what authorities believed were contraband goods sneaked into the cells. The inmates are said to have refused to take their morning porridge in protest. Following the unrest, prison visits were suspended and visitors, who were already in Kamiti, asked to leave.
