A police officer has reportedly taken his own life in Kirinyaga County. Reports indicate that Constable Gerald Ngige Mwai hanged himself using a piece of cloth ‘leso’ at Wang’ata village in Kirinyaga Central. Ndia OCPD Mutwiri Mwongera confirmed the incident saying the officer’s children raised alarm after finding their father dangling from the roof of his bedroom. The children then rushed to inform their mother who was attending a Sunday service at a nearby church. It was not immediately clear why the officer committed suicide. The government has revoked the operational licence of Precious Talent Academy following the Monday tragedy that claimed eight lives. The close to 800 pupils who were learning at the school will be transferred to Ngong Forest Primary School, which will take up 480 learners, 180 will be taken to Jamhuri Primary School and 130 to Riruta Satellite Primary School. Detectives in Kericho County have arrested one suspect in connection with the murder of Rai Cement General Manager Chatan Vyas. According to the police, the suspect, a security guard at the late Vyas’ factory in Sigowet Sub County, was captured by CCTV cameras moving the ladder which his two other accomplices used to scale the factory’s perimeter wall into the deceased’s house. “He was arrested by a team of detectives drawn from the Belgut Directorate of Criminal Investigations after a review of the footage,” Kericho County DCIO Stephen Magwe said on Thursday. With less than five days remaining before the old generation Ksh1000 banknotes get demonetized, a number of businesses have started rejecting them. This is following the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) reiteration that the banknotes will be worthless — pieces of paper — come October 1. Police in Kericho County have launched investigations into the death of Rai Cement General Manager Chetan Vyas. According to reports, the 50-year-old’s body was discovered on Tuesday in his bedroom at his home which is located around the factory premises in Sigowet Sub County.
