The Ministry of Health has announced 44 new cases of Covid-19 from a sample size of 4,238 tested in the last 24 hours. Kenya’s positivity rate is now at 1.0 percent, a drop from 2.5 percent recorded on Saturday. Total confirmed positive cases are now 252,672 and cumulative tests so far conducted are 2,673,705. The country’s fatalities have risen to 5,257 after another two patients succumbed to the disease on diverse dates. Police in Nakuru have launched a man-hunt for a 4-member gang terrorising residents. According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the knife-wielding gang operating across the county is notorious for robbing residents of their valuables. 40 people were arrested in a crackdown on entertainment joints operating beyond the stipulated hours in Maralal town, Samburu County, on Saturday night. Thome Boys High School in Laikipia Central was on Thursday closed indefinitely after a Form 2 student died following a dormitory fire. Police reports indicate that the fire broke out at midnight while the students were sleeping. Kenya has received a boost in its fight against the Covid-19 pandemic after receiving 504,000 doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. In a statement on Friday morning, the Ministry of Health said the vaccine doses arrived in the country on Thursday evening. The latest consignment was acquired through the African Vaccine Acquisition Trust (AVAT) mechanism. AVAT task team was established in August 2020 to ensure that the African continent would be able to secure sufficient COVID-19 vaccine doses to achieve herd immunity.
