Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai has ordered a probe into the killing of a boda boda rider by a police officer in Igembe North, Meru County. Patrick Koome was fatally shot during an operation to recover a motorcycle he had allegedly stolen. Counties are set to receive 79 more doctors from Cuba in phase two of the deployment exercise. This was revealed on Monday, October 18 by the Council of Governors Chairperson Martin Wambora. Speaking after a council meeting, Wambora said the doctors in various specialties have concluded the induction programme at the Kenya School of Government. The government is considering lifting the 10pm-4am curfew as Kenyans continue to decry adverse effects on the economy. President Uhuru Kenyatta said on Monday the curfew will be lifted soon. Ibrahim Rotich, the estranged lover of slain athlete Agnes Tirop, will remain in custody for 20 more days pending a probe into the murder. Rotich, who is the prime suspect in Tirop’s murder, was arraigned before an Iten court on Monday. The suspect, however, did not take plea as police sought to hold the suspect for 20 days to complete investigations into the killing. The request was granted by Principal magistrate Charles Kutwa who directed the suspect be detained at Eldoret Police Station. A third suspect has been arrested in connection with the murder of athlete Agnes Tirop. Speaking to a local daily, Keiyo North sub-County Police Commander Tom Makori confirmed the arrest but declined to reveal the identity of the suspect. “There was an unidentified woman who was spotted at the slain athlete’s home a day before her body was discovered. Kenya continues to record a drop in its Covid-19 positivity rate as vaccination calls intensify. On Sunday, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced 74 new cases from a sample size of 3,987 tested in the last 24 hours. The country’s positivity rate is now at 1.9 percent, a drop from 3.5 percent recorded on Saturday. Total confirmed positive cases are now 252,033 and cumulative tests so far conducted are 2,639,107. Police say they are treating the husband of the late athlete Agnes Tirop as the main suspect in her murder. The deceased was part of a group of bandits that had stolen cattle in Ntimnariwo Sub-Location at the border of Laikipia and Samburu County on Tuesday evening. Police officers in Kerugoya, Kirinyaga County, have arrested a man for allegedly killing his girlfriend on Tuesday evening. Kennedy Nyamu was seized by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations last night after he allegedly savagely attacked 27-year-old Edith Muthoni, inflicting a deep cut on the back of her head.
