Police in Mombasa have launched a hunt for Boda Boda riders who allegedly robbed of a motorist Ksh500,000 after a minor accident. The motorist identified as Abdallah Mohamed had been involved in a road mishap with one of the riders within Nyali area and decided to settle the traffic case by offering the operator Ksh5,000, as compensation. Ugandan activist Stella Nyanzi has fled to Nairobi, Kenya, over alleged political persecution back home, her lawyer George Luchiri Wajackoyah confirmed on Wednesday. The long-time critic of President Yoweri Museveni, who is now seeking political asylum in Kenya,  arrived in Nairobi by bus on Saturday. Embattled former Nairobi County Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko on Wednesday burst into tears as he appeared in court in a case where he is charged with graft. Sonko, who appeared before Milimani Anti-Corruption Court Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti, was asking the court for more for his new lawyers to familiarise themselves with the case before it can continue. Police in Machakos have impounded three County government vehicles fitted with fake number plates in the ongoing senatorial by-election campaigns. Reports indicate that the vehicles were among those that were being used by Maendeleo Chap Chap (MCC) candidate Mutua Katuku in his campaigns yesterday. Kenyan High Court Judge Mumbi Ngugi is set to be honoured with the Global Jurist of the Year Award by Northwestern Pritzker School of Law’s Center for International Human Rights (CIHR). Zanzibar First Vice President Seif Sharif Hamad has confirmed reports that he recently tested positive for coronavirus. Members of the press were on Monday barred from covering proceedings at a Kiambu Court where former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko was arraigned to face assault-related charges. Ugandan opposition politician Robert Kyagulantyi better known as Bobi Wine has filed a petition at the country’s Supreme Court seeking to nullify results of the January 14 presidential election. More than 100 women on Monday staged protests outside Sagana State Lodge in Nyeri County demanding audience with President Uhuru Kenyatta after a scheduled meeting with the Head of State was cancelled. Veteran Gusii politician Simeon Nyanchae has died at the age of 88. Nyachae’s family confirmed on Monday that the former finance minister died at the Nairobi Hospital where he was receiving treatment. The Gusii region kingpin retired from active politics in 2007 after he failed to clinch the Nyaribari Chache parliamentary seat. He contested for presidency in 2002 on the Ford People party ticket but lost to retired President Mwai Kibaki of the then-popular National Rainbow Coalition (NARC) coalition. Police in Bungoma are holding a Form Two student over an arson incident at Friends School Namwela Boys High in Bungoma County. Major parts of Nairobi will from Wednesday, February 3, 2021 experience dry taps as Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company moves to upgrade Uthiru and Dagoretti pump suctions.
