Police have launched investigations after the body of an unidentified man was retrieved from the Thika River in Kiambu County on Saturday evening.
Police officers who responded to the scene found the body of an unidentified African male, believed to be about 35 years old, floating in the middle of the river.
The Kiambu County Rescue Team was called in to assist with the recovery. Divers arrived at the scene and successfully retrieved the body.
Crime Scene Investigations (CSI) officers from Thika West documented the scene before the body was taken to the Nairobi City Mortuary, where it is awaiting identification and a post-mortem examination.
Police have commenced investigations to establish the man’s identity and the circumstances surrounding his death.
Elsewhere, police in Kitui County have launched investigations after the body of an unidentified man was found under suspicious circumstances in Bondeni area on Saturday morning.
The incident was reported at about 8:50 a.m., prompting officers from Kitui Police Station to visit the scene.
The body was found lying along a narrow footpath between a perimeter wall and a bushy stream bank.
According to police, the deceased was a well-nourished man of medium height and build, believed to be about 30 years old.
Investigators observed a blood clot on a bruised wound at the back of his head, although his white shirt remained unstained, raising questions about the circumstances surrounding his death.
Crime scene officers processed the area before the body was moved to the Kitui County Referral Hospital Mortuary for preservation, identification and a post-mortem examination.
Police are treating the case as a suspected murder and have launched investigations to establish the victim’s identity, the cause of death and those responsible.
And the body of an 18-year-old man who drowned while crossing River Athi on a makeshift boat has been recovered in Matungulu Sub-county, Machakos County.
Police said the body of Nzau Mutuku resurfaced on Saturday morning in the Maui area, three days after he was reported missing.
According to the police report, the teenager accidentally slipped from a makeshift boat on Wednesday, July 8, while crossing the river to Juja Farm to graze livestock.
Preliminary investigations established that Nzau fell into the deep waters of River Athi and drowned while attempting to cross the river.
His body, which was partially decomposed, was recovered and moved to General Kago Funeral Home, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Police said the incident is being treated as an accidental drowning.
