Boubacar Bernard Kamara is a French professional footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder for Premier League club Aston Villa and the France national team.

Born on 23 November 1999 in Marseille, France, he is renowned for his composure on the ball, tactical intelligence, versatility, and ability to win duels while distributing play effectively.

Of Senegalese descent through his father and with a Corsican mother named Cathy, Kamara is a lifelong supporter of Olympique de Marseille, where he spent the majority of his early career.

A Muslim, he is also a family man and has been praised for his quiet leadership and professionalism.

As a child, he regularly attended Marseille matches at the Stade Vélodrome with his parents, brother Djibril, and sister Djena.

    Career

Kamara joined the Olympique de Marseille academy at the age of five in 2005 and progressed through every youth category, captaining the U19 team to the Coupe Gambardella final.

He made his senior debut in December 2016 in the Coupe de la Ligue and became a regular in Ligue 1, accumulating over 170 appearances for his boyhood club across various positions.

He featured prominently in European competitions, including reaching the UEFA Europa League final in 2018.

In May 2022, he joined Aston Villa on a free transfer as his Marseille contract expired, signing a five-year deal.

After adapting to the Premier League and overcoming knee injuries (including an ACL issue in 2024 and another in early 2026), he established himself as a key midfielder under Unai Emery.

He scored his first Premier League goal in May 2025 and signed a contract extension until 2030 in July 2025.

Internationally, he represented France at multiple youth levels before making his senior debut in 2022, opting for Les Bleus over Senegal despite eligibility through his father’s heritage.

    Accolades

With Marseille, Kamara was a UEFA Europa League runner-up in 2017–18. At Aston Villa, he contributed to the club’s UEFA Europa League triumph in the 2025–26 season.

Individually, his consistent performances have earned recognition as one of the Premier League’s most reliable defensive midfielders, valued for his ball recovery, passing accuracy, and leadership qualities.
