    Boy drowns in river while bathing in Nyando

    A 14-year-old boy drowned in a river as he bathed with other colleagues in Kodete, Nyando, Kisumu County.

    The boy was a grade seven pupil at Oroba Junior Secondary School in the area.

    He had visited his uncle in the area and later went with other children to bathe in the river near the home.

    His four colleagues said they found he was missing minutes after he had drowned and the body was later retrieved and taken to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

    Meanwhile, a robbery with violence suspect escaped from a hospital he had been admitted to at the Thika Level Five Hospital.

    James Wambua Kyalo, 22 had been admitted at the hospital with injuries pending production in court following his arrest on December 5, 2025.

    He is said to have sneaked out of his hospital bed on December 7, 2025 and escaped through the back gate.

    It happened that while the said prisoner was being served with lunch in his hospital bed, he disappeared un-noticed to an unknown destination, police said.

    He was being guarded by two police officers at the hospital. They were questioned as part of the probe into the incident.

    An operation to rearrest the suspect continued on Monday, police said.

    And a Russian national was detained at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi over claims of obtaining by false pretenses. Police said Anna Semenova was detained on Sunday morning as she tried to board an Egyptian airline. She was detained following a complaint by some people she allegedly took money from.

    Police said they are investigating the incident hence the move to detain her.

    Elsewhere in Soin, Kericho County, police are investigating an incident where unknown people set fire several acres of sugarcane plantation. The motive of the incident is yet to be known and no arrest had been made by Monday, police said.
