Bradley Slater is a New Zealand rugby union player born on 23 September 1998 in New Plymouth.

He primarily plays as a hooker, with occasional appearances as a flanker.

He attended New Plymouth Boys’ High School and grew up on a family farm near New Plymouth, an upbringing he has credited with building the work ethic that supports his professional career.

Slater is the son of former Taranaki representative Andy Slater, a lock and back-rower who made 180 provincial appearances for the province and briefly featured for the Hurricanes, and the nephew of All Black prop Gordon Slater.

    Siblings

Bradley has at least one sister named Emma.

His father is former Taranaki representative Andy Slater, and he has a famous uncle named Gordon Slater, who played for the All Blacks in 1997 and 2000.

    Career

Slater began his senior provincial career with Taranaki in 2017.

He progressed through the New Zealand under-20 pathway, representing the national age-grade side in 2019.

That same year he earned a call-up to the Chiefs for Super Rugby, making his debut as injury cover and gradually establishing himself in the squad.

He remained with the Chiefs through the 2025 season, accumulating 68 Super Rugby appearances and contributing both as a starting hooker and from the bench while also filling in at flanker when required.

Parallel to his Super Rugby commitments he continued to feature regularly for Taranaki in the National Provincial Championship, building substantial game time and scoring tries across multiple campaigns.

In 2025 he signed with the Blues, joining the Auckland-based franchise for the 2026 Super Rugby Pacific season and beyond.

He has also represented the All Blacks XV and, in August 2026, received a late call-up to the All Blacks squad for their tour of South Africa after an injury to another hooker.

    Accolades

Slater has been part of successful Taranaki sides in the National Provincial Championship, including the province’s title-winning campaign.

At Super Rugby level he featured in Chiefs teams that reached finals, including runners-up finishes in Super Rugby Aotearoa and subsequent Super Rugby Pacific seasons.

His consistent performances earned selection for the All Blacks XV and, more recently, elevation into the full All Blacks touring squad.
