CAF Suspends Ticket Sales For Kasarani Matches

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has suspended ticket sales for all upcoming matches at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani — including next Sunday’s Kenya vs Zambia clash — following serious safety and security breaches during the Harambee Stars’ match against Morocco.

The incidents, which happened before and during the game, included a broken gate, fans entering without tickets, overcrowding beyond the stadium’s capacity, invasion of the media centre, and the use of tear gas.

CAF’s disciplinary and safety committees are now investigating the matter and will decide on further action.

When navigating the ticket booking platform on Monday, Kasarani Stadium was no longer listed as a venue.

On Sunday, hundreds of Kenyan football fans were left stranded outside Kasarani despite holding what appeared to be valid tickets. Many of them said they were turned away after their tickets were flagged as already scanned.

The situation quickly escalated when some desperate fans jumped over the perimeter fence to get inside. Despite a heavy police presence, several individuals breached the stadium from one side, sparking a near stampede and raising fresh fears of CAF sanctions.

This latest breach comes only days after CAF fined the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Sh2.5 million for poor crowd control and warned of tougher penalties if similar incidents occurred. The fine was linked to earlier security lapses during the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, which Kenya is co-hosting alongside Uganda and Tanzania.
