A Catholic priest was found dead inside his house at Our Lady of Rosary Doldol Parish in Laikipia North Sub-County on Tuesday morning.
The deceased, identified as Father Lucio Karioki, was discovered after he failed to respond when a fellow priest attempted to wake him to attend the parish’s daily morning Mass.
According to police, Father Vincent Onchweri raised the alarm at around 6:30 a.m. after he tried to wake Father Karioki but found him unable to speak or respond.
Police officers visited the scene. The priest’s house was found locked from the inside, prompting officers to use force to gain entry.
Upon entering, they found Father Karioki already dead. Police said he had no visible injuries, although foam was observed coming from his mouth.
The scene was processed and documented before the body was removed to Nanyuki Level Five Hospital mortuary, where it is awaiting a postmortem examination to establish the cause of death.
Police investigations are ongoing.
Meanwhile, a 68-year-old security officer was found dead inside a cooling plant at a company in Rabai Sub-County, Kilifi County, in an incident being investigated as a suspected drowning.
The deceased, identified as Chanzo Robert Gaya, was discovered on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, after his family and colleagues raised concern over his whereabouts.
Gaya had been on day shift at the company on Monday, September 14. However, when the officer assigned to the night shift arrived, he reportedly did not see him.
The night-duty officer later informed the supervisor that Gaya, who was expected to relieve him, had not reported for work. Family members subsequently visited the company to inquire about his whereabouts after he failed to return home.
A search was conducted, leading to the discovery of his body floating inside a cooling plant containing coolant.
Police officers visited the scene. Preliminary investigations indicated that the body had no visible physical injuries.
The scene was processed and documented before the body was moved to Coast General Hospital mortuary, where it is awaiting an autopsy to establish the cause of death.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the officer’s death are ongoing.
