On Wednesday 6 September, four IEBC commissioners walked out of Chairman Wafula Chebukati’s meeting protesting the appointment of the new team to oversee fresh presidential elections.
Consolata Nkatha, Abdi Guliye, PAul Kurgat and Boyu Molu accused Chebukati of failing to consult them during the selection. They claimed that the chairman handpicked the team without consulting them.
They insisted that IEBC Secretary and CEO Ezra Chiloba are the only people mandated to make such changes.
They also alleged that some senior officials were having secret meetings with politicians.

“Assignment of duties to staff and implementation of commission decision is the work of the commission secretary, Chiloba, who is also the accounting officer. We have also reliably learnt some of us met some senior political players in this election on Monday evening. We have to be sure that some decisions such as these were nt the product of such meetings as alleged,” one commissioner said.
However Commissioners Roselyn Akombe and Margaret Mwachanya are said to be in support of Chebukati and are ready to work with the new team.
The commissioners meeting was rescheduled for Thursday.
