A group of responders, which included a police officer, was attacked and seriously wounded by arrows in a robbery incident in Ntimaru area, Migori County.
Police said a lorry driver ferrying 140 bags of dry maize had raised a distress call on September 13, 2025 night along Ntimaru-Gwitembe road after he had been attacked by armed men at Seronga Junction.
The driver and his loaders were robbed of their cash and valuables as they sought help. A sergeant of police who is in charge of the local police post responded there and was shot by an arrow in the left limb near his ankle as he stood at the scene.
This sent panic among other officers who rushed to rescue him to the hospital, police said.
The area assistant chief had also responded there and was too shot with an arrow on the left side of the abdomen. The arrow was lodged in his body. A group he had arrived to had to take cover in darkness in fear of being attacked.
A team of police was sent to the scene and opened fire to the air scaring the gang behind the incident. The team shot to the air about 20 times scaring the group as they rescued the injured officer and the assistant chief. The assailants escaped the scene.
Police said they are looking for the gang behind the incident for grilling and possible action.
