A police officer was shot and injured in a confrontation with suspected thugs in Kegonga area, Kuria, Migori County.

The constable of police attached to Kegonga police station was on patrol with other officers in the area when they were attacked on Friday night.

He was shot in the right arm and the bullet also went through his ribs and was lodged in the right lungs.

He was rushed to the hospital and admitted in stable condition. Police said the gunmen escaped the scene.

A team of detectives is investigating the shooting.

Elsewhere in Baragoi, Samburu County, gunmen shot and injured a father and his daughter before stealing their 24 goats in an attack.

The incident happened late in the night on Friday as the family slept.

Both the father aged 67 and daughter aged 13 were rushed to the hospital in a stable condition.

Police responded to the scene hours later but no arrest or recovery of the stolen goats was made.

Police said on Sunday they were combing the area to pursue those behind the attack.

The area is among those under a special operation to address cattle rustling menace.

The bandits keep attacking villages despite the operation.

And police in Mutuati, Meru County are looking for a gang that attacked a family and robbed them of their motorcycle.

The gang shot to the air once before they escaped the scene.

Police said the gang stole a motorcycle before leaving. Police visited the scene and collected a spent cartridge. The cartridge was sent to the ballistic experts for analysis.

Cases of stealing of motorcycles have been on the rise in various places amid efforts to address the trend.

Police say they are pursuing the cases and that some of the stolen motorcycles are changed and sold to unsuspecting buyers locally and out of the country.
