Courtney Williams is a standout American professional basketball player currently shining with the Minnesota Lynx in the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA).

Raised in a small town of fewer than 5,000 people, Courtney’s passion for basketball was evident from a young age.

She grew up sleeping with a basketball and dreaming of a WNBA career, a vision nurtured by her athletic parents, Donald and Michele Williams.

Her journey took her from dominating the courts at Charlton County High School to an illustrious college career at the University of South Florida (USF), and eventually to the professional stage, where she has become a key figure in women’s basketball.

    Siblings

Courtney has one sibling, her sister Doniece Williams. Doniece resides in their hometown of Folkston, Georgia, where she is raising her son as a single mother.

While Courtney’s life has been heavily documented through her basketball achievements, less is publicly known about Doniece, who appears to lead a more private life away from the spotlight.

    Career

Courtney first made waves at Charlton County High School, where she broke her mother Michele’s single-game scoring record of 40 points by dropping 42 in her junior year, later pushing it to 47 as a senior.

Her prowess earned her a scholarship to USF, where she evolved from a bench player to a national standout.

By her senior year, she averaged 22.4 points per game, finishing her college career with over 2,000 points, 900 rebounds, and 300 assists—stats that cemented her legacy as one of USF’s all-time greats.

Drafted eighth overall by the Phoenix Mercury in the 2016 WNBA Draft, Courtney’s professional journey has seen her play for multiple teams, including the Connecticut Sun, Atlanta Dream, Chicago Sky, and now the Minnesota Lynx.

Her career highlights include leading the Sun to the 2019 WNBA Finals and adapting to a point guard role with the Sky in 2023, where she ranked fourth in the league in assists per game.

In 2024, with the Lynx, she played a pivotal role in reaching the WNBA Finals, notably scoring crucial points in a historic Game 1 comeback.

    Accolades

Williams’ trophy case reflects her excellence at every level.

    At USF, she was a three-time First-Team All-American Athletic Conference selection and a 2016 WBCA First-Team All-American.

Her jersey number 10 is retired by the Bulls, and she was inducted into the USF Athletic Hall of Fame in 2019.

Internationally, she contributed to Team USA’s gold medal win at the 2015 World University Games in South Korea, posting double-doubles in key games.

In the WNBA, she earned her first All-Star nod in 2021 with the Atlanta Dream and received a Player of the Week honor in 2019 with the Sun.

Her standout performances, like becoming the fourth player in WNBA history to record 15+ points, 10+ assists, 8+ rebounds, and 4+ steals in a single game (June 14, 2024), underscore her status as one of the league’s elite talents.
