A gold mine owner in Kehancha, Kuria West, was targeted by a gang of four armed men during a night raid in which a gunman fired into a neighbouring rental house, injuring two women.

The incident happened at St Kizito area, Kehancha, on Tuesday.

Police said a man who owns a mine in Kehancha, was sleeping in his rental house when the gang arrived and began breaking down his door.

One of the attackers was armed with a rifle while the other three carried pangas and an axe, according to witnesses.

The victim raised an alarm, prompting other residents to scream from their houses.

The attackers abandoned their attempt to break into his house and started fleeing the compound. As they left, the gunman allegedly fired one shot through the steel door of a neighbouring rental house where residents were screaming.

A woman and daughter were injured in the shooting.

The daughter sustained injuries to her right leg below the knee, while her mother suffered injuries to both ankles.

Police suspect the injuries were caused by fragments from the bullet after it passed through the metallic door.

The two women were rushed to Oasis Hospital in Kehancha Township, where a metallic fragment was removed from one of the legs.

Police officers visited the scene and recovered one spent 7.62x39mm cartridge believed to have been fired by the attackers.

The cartridge and other recovered material were preserved as exhibits as detectives launched investigations.

Police suspect the gang’s motive was to steal proceeds from the man’s gold mining operations, although the value of the money they may have been targeting has not been established.

Detectives are pursuing leads to identify and arrest the four suspects.

Such violent attacks have been on the rise in the area. Gunmen target gold dealers in the area for money.

Police say they have teams pursuing the gangs behind the trend.

And police in Nairobi have recovered a loaded pistol magazine containing 11 rounds of ammunition along State House Road.

The magazine was discovered on Tuesday evening, September 8, 2026, by a Nairobi City County enforcement officer who was walking along the road near the Lady Northey office.

The officer said he spotted the abandoned magazine beside a culvert at about 8pm and alerted the police.
Police visited the scene and recovered the magazine.

Police said the magazine is believed to belong to a Mini Beretta pistol and was loaded with 11 rounds of 9mm ammunition.

The scene was processed, with the magazine and ammunition secured as exhibits as investigations continue.

Police are expected to establish how the magazine ended up at the location and whether it is linked to any firearm or criminal activity.
