Harambee Stars players who qualified the national team for this year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt have received the Ksh50 million bonus pledge from the government.

Through the Deputy President William Ruto, the government committed to part with the amount as a motivation to the players if they made it to the continental showpiece for the first time in 15 years, a feat they achieved.

The money was factored into the team’s Afcon budget of Ksh224 million which has already been released to the Football Kenya Federation (FKF).

“The federation has already wired Ksh50 million to the accounts of all players and staff that participated in the 2019 AFCON qualifier matches, as was promised to the national team by the Deputy president,” a statement from FKF reads.

“We want to sincerely thank the government not only for the release of this funds but also for the unwavering support we continue to receive around our national teams,” said FKF president Nick Mwendwa.

“It is our strong belief that the Ksh244 million, further demonstrates the government’s commitment to supporting football and the long term growth of the sport,” added the FKF president.
