Henry Swieca is an American billionaire hedge fund manager, investor, and philanthropist with a net worth of $2.6 billion. He is best known as the co-founder of Highbridge Capital Management, one of the pioneering multi-strategy hedge funds that helped shape modern Wall Street investing.

Alongside his childhood friend Glenn Dubin, Swieca helped build Highbridge into a major institutional platform in the 1990s and early 2000s. The firm gained recognition for its disciplined risk management approach and diversified investment strategies spanning equities, fixed income, credit, arbitrage, and global macro trading.

In 2004, Highbridge Capital Management sold a majority stake to J.P. Morgan in a deal valued at approximately $1.3 billion, marking one of the early landmark acquisitions of a hedge fund by a major global bank. Swieca continued serving as Chief Investment Officer until his retirement from day-to-day management in 2009.

After leaving Highbridge, he established Talpion Fund Management, a New York-based family office that manages his personal wealth and select family capital. Through Talpion, Swieca invests across hedge funds, private equity, real estate, and venture capital, maintaining a long-term, capital-preservation-focused strategy.

Beyond finance, Swieca has built a strong reputation as a philanthropist, supporting institutions such as Columbia Business School, Stony Brook University, Yeshiva University, the UJA-Federation of New York, Mount Sinai Medical Center, and the American Museum of Natural History. His charitable work is largely guided by his family’s history as Holocaust survivors, with a focus on education, Jewish causes, and community resilience.

Despite his immense wealth, Swieca is known for maintaining a low-profile lifestyle and a disciplined investment philosophy centered on stability, long-term compounding, and risk control.

    Early Life

Henry Swieca was born in 1957 and raised in Washington Heights, New York City, to Polish Jewish parents who survived the Holocaust. Their experiences of displacement and rebuilding deeply influenced his worldview, particularly his emphasis on financial security and resilience.

He attended public schools in New York before earning a bachelor’s degree in economics from Stony Brook University, where he met future business partner Glenn Dubin. Swieca later completed an MBA in finance at Columbia Business School. Even during his student years, he showed early interest in markets by investing in stocks and options.

    Early Career

Swieca began his career on Wall Street in the late 1970s, working as a trader and portfolio manager at firms including E.F. Hutton and Shearson Lehman. He specialized in convertible bond arbitrage and equity derivatives, developing the technical foundation that would later define his hedge fund strategy.

By the late 1980s, Swieca and Dubin began envisioning a new type of investment firm that could combine multiple strategies under one roof—an idea that eventually became Highbridge Capital Management.

    Highbridge Capital Management

Founded in 1992 with around $35 million in seed capital, Highbridge Capital Management was named after the bridge connecting Manhattan and the Bronx, reflecting the founders’ New York roots.

Swieca served as Chief Investment Officer, overseeing trading and risk management, while Dubin handled investor relations and business development. Highbridge quickly became one of the early leaders in the multi-strategy hedge fund space, earning a reputation for consistency, discipline, and strong institutional appeal.

By the early 2000s, the firm had grown into a multi-billion-dollar operation. Its 2004 partial sale to J.P. Morgan marked a major milestone in the institutionalization of hedge funds. Swieca remained active in leadership until stepping away from daily operations in 2009.

    Talpion Fund Management

After retiring from Highbridge, Swieca founded Talpion Fund Management, a private family office based in New York. The firm manages his personal wealth and select investments for family capital.

Talpion’s strategy reflects Swieca’s long-standing philosophy: cautious risk-taking, diversification, and long-term capital preservation. The firm invests across hedge funds, private equity, venture capital, and real estate, often partnering in selective private deals.

    Philanthropy

Swieca is a major philanthropic donor, with contributions spanning education, healthcare, and Jewish community organizations. He has supported institutions such as Columbia Business School, Stony Brook University, Yeshiva University, the UJA-Federation of New York, Mount Sinai Medical Center, and the American Museum of Natural History.

Through the Swieca Family Foundation, he and his wife Estee support initiatives in education, mental health, Jewish heritage, and social services in both the United States and Israel. His philanthropy is strongly influenced by his family’s history as Holocaust survivors.

    Personal Life

Henry Swieca is married to Estee Swieca, and the couple has two sons. They maintain residences in New York City, the Hamptons, and Florida.
