Jordan Matthew Barrett, born on 17 February 1997 in New Plymouth, New Zealand, is a professional rugby union player who primarily plays as a versatile outside back or midfielder for the Hurricanes in Super Rugby Pacific and the All Blacks.
He is renowned for his athleticism, aerial ability, kicking skills, and positional flexibility – he has started at fullback, centre (especially inside centre), wing, and even first-five.
All Black number 1159, he has earned over 80 Test caps and more than 300 points for New Zealand (including over 25 tries).
He is the youngest of the highly successful Barrett rugby brothers and has served as an All Blacks vice-captain alongside Ardie Savea in recent years.
Barrett studied commerce at Lincoln University and began his professional pathway with Canterbury before establishing himself with the Hurricanes.
Siblings
Jordie is one of eight children of Kevin Barrett, a former Taranaki and Hurricanes loose forward who played 167 games for the province, and Robyn Barrett.
His older brothers include Kane (a former professional player for Taranaki and the Blues whose career was cut short by concussion), Beauden (All Blacks fly-half/fullback and two-time World Rugby Player of the Year), Scott (All Blacks lock and captain), and Blake.
He also has sisters.
The family briefly lived in County Meath, Ireland, in the early 2000s when Kevin managed a farm and played club rugby, creating lasting connections that later influenced Jordie’s sabbatical.
The three All Black brothers – Beauden, Scott, and Jordie – made history as the first trio of siblings to start a Test match together for New Zealand.

Career
Barrett attended Francis Douglas Memorial College and progressed through New Zealand age-group sides, including the Under-20s in 2016.
He debuted for Canterbury in the Mitre 10 Cup that year, helping them win the title, and toured as an All Blacks apprentice.
He joined the Hurricanes in 2017, scoring heavily in his debut Super Rugby season, and made his All Blacks Test debut against Samoa the same year.
He featured in the 2017 British & Irish Lions series and has been a consistent presence ever since, despite an eight-month shoulder injury layoff early on.
He has played for Taranaki at provincial level and spent a 2024-25 sabbatical season with Leinster in Ireland, where he contributed to a United Rugby Championship title.
Barrett returned to the Hurricanes and was part of their 2026 Super Rugby Pacific championship-winning squad.
He has committed to New Zealand Rugby, the Hurricanes, and Taranaki through to the end of 2028 (covering the 2027 Rugby World Cup cycle and potential involvement around the 2029 Lions tour).
He has also shown interest in a possible future return to Leinster.
Accolades
Barrett has been part of multiple Rugby Championship-winning All Blacks sides.
He reached the Rugby World Cup semi-finals or better in 2019 (third place) and 2023 (runners-up).
With the Hurricanes he claimed the 2026 Super Rugby Pacific title, and with Leinster he won the 2024-25 United Rugby Championship.
He has earned multiple Man of the Match awards at Test level, including a four-try haul against Italy in 2018.
The Central North Island 1st XV MVP award was renamed the Jordie Barrett MVP Medal in recognition of his schoolboy achievements and subsequent success.
