NTV’s General Manager Linus Kaikai is allegedly headed to Royal Media Services as the Chief Operations Officer (COO).
Kaikai who is also the Chairperson Kenya Editors Guild (KEG) will be taking over from Faridah Karoney who was appointed to President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Cabinet as the Lands CS.
The award winning journalist has been in the limelight together with Senior reporter Ken Mijungu and NTV’s technology editor, Larry Madowo.
The trio reportedly defied a directive from State House, asking media houses to not broadcast live Raila Odinga’s swearing in.
Kaikai issued a statement on January 29 where he claimed that President Kenyatta expressly threatened to shutdown and revoke the licences of any media house that would provide coverage for Odinga’s oath taking ceremony.
“Consequently, the Editors’ Guild condemns and rejects the threats and purported instructions issued at State House on Friday. We call on all media houses and journalists to carry on their work diligently and to report impartially on all matters of public interest as they have always done. The government should also ensure that journalists are neither harmed nor intimidated as they perform their work on Tuesday and thereafter,” his statement read in part.
It is after the ‘oath’ taking ceremony that Interior CS Fred Matiang’i shut down four Tv stations, among them NTV.
Plain-clothed officers are then said to have camped outside the Nation Centre. They were looking to arrest the three journalists, forcing them to seek anticipatory bail.
Sources privy to the goings-on in the twin towers say that the General manager has since then been sidelined and in his place, Pamela Asigi who now reports directly to Editor-in-chief, Tom Mshindi.

Business Today also reports that leaving with Kaikai will be Madowo who on Thursday terminated his contract with Daily Nation for the Front Row column.
The SideBar host was in the recent past involved in a heated exchange with out going CEO, Joe Muganda when he questioned the media house’s independence.
