Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has conceded defeat in the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election, after provisional results indicated that the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) candidate had taken a commanding lead over the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate.

In a statement shared on social media, Kindiki acknowledged the outcome, saying the result had levelled recent by-election contests between the Kenya Kwanza Alliance and the opposition.

He noted that UDA had won the Mbeere North by-election, while DCP had emerged victorious in Ol Kalou, describing the score as “1:1”.

“Congratulations Sammy Douglas Waweru Kamau on your imminent victory in the by-election held today for the MP seat for Ol Kalou constituency. Unite the residents and serve them all without distinction. Congratulations Samuel Muchina our UDA Party candidate for a good show and a mature, issue-based campaign devoid of insults,” Kindiki stated.

The real contest will be on August 10, 2027, during the General Election.

Several leaders, including those allied to the Kenya Kwanza administration, congratulated Sammy Kamau Ngotho on his victory even before the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) officially declared the final results.

Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, a UDA legislator, congratulated Ngotho and also praised the party’s candidate Samuel Muchina Nyagah for a spirited campaign.

“Thumbs up also to Samuel Muchina Nyagah for a well-fought race. I was on the ground, and I respect the decision made by the people of Ol Kalou. This administration of President William Ruto was formed by the people of Murima, and they are still part of this Government. Now, my people, let us move forward,” Sudi said.

Head of Presidential Special Projects and Creative Economy Coordination Dennis Itumbi, who actively campaigned for the UDA candidate, also congratulated Ngotho.

“Congratulations Ngotho. Well fought. Well won. Serve Ol Kalou well. Good campaign Samuel Muchina Nyagah. We had a great race. We did what we could. We lost today. There is tomorrow,” Itumbi posted.

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru, another Kenya Kwanza leader, also congratulated the DCP candidate.

“Congratulations Ngotho. Well fought, well won. Serve Ol Kalou with honour. Good campaign Samuel Muchina Nyagah, you had a great race. We are reflecting… it is what it is,” she said.

The IEBC was, by the time of publication, yet to officially declare the final results of the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election.
