Lamare Trenton Chansey Bogarde is a Dutch professional footballer who plays primarily as a defensive midfielder but can also feature as a centre-back or right-back for Premier League club Aston Villa.

Born on 5 January 2004 in Rotterdam, Netherlands, he is known for his versatility, composure on the ball, athleticism, and high football intelligence.

Of Surinamese descent, Bogarde joined Aston Villa’s academy from Feyenoord in 2020 as a promising teenager and has steadily progressed into a reliable first-team squad player under manager Unai Emery.

He has represented the Netherlands at various youth international levels, including the U21 side.

    Siblings

Lamare is the younger brother of Melayro Bogarde, a professional footballer who has played as a centre-back for clubs including Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga and more recently LASK.

Melayro, roughly a couple of years older, has been supportive of Lamare’s career, offering guidance as both brothers pursued professional paths in European football.

Their family connection to the game extends further through their uncle, Winston Bogarde, a former top-level defender who played for clubs like Ajax, Barcelona, and Chelsea, and later transitioned into coaching and management roles, including with the Suriname national team.

    Career

Bogarde began his youth career in the renowned Feyenoord academy in his hometown of Rotterdam.

In September 2020, at the age of 16, he transferred to Aston Villa’s academy for a modest fee.

He made his senior debut for Villa shortly afterward in an FA Cup tie against Liverpool in January 2021 and signed his first professional contract soon after.

He was part of the Villa U18 side that won the FA Youth Cup in 2021.

To gain experience, he spent two loan spells at EFL League One side Bristol Rovers in 2023, where he adapted to senior English football, primarily featuring in central midfield and earning praise for his growth.

Upon returning to Aston Villa, he broke into the first team during the 2024–25 season, making his Premier League debut against Leicester City and featuring regularly as a versatile squad player across defensive and midfield positions.

By the 2025–26 season, he had become a more established figure in the squad, contributing in the Premier League, domestic cups, and European competitions.

He has also earned call-ups to the Netherlands U21 team.

    Accolades

Bogarde’s honours include the FA Youth Cup with Aston Villa U18s in 2020–21 and the Birmingham Senior Cup with the U21s in 2023–24.

On an individual level, he earned recognition such as a place in BBC Sport’s Team of the Week following a strong Premier League performance early in his breakthrough season.

His consistent development and reliability under Unai Emery have marked him as a promising young talent capable of contributing at the highest levels of club and international football.
