A 20-year-old herdsman was killed after being struck by lightning in Kedong area, Mirera Sub-location, Naivasha Sub-County, Nakuru County.

The incident occurred on April 26, 2026 at around 5:00pm, police and locals said.

According to the report, the deceased, identified as Daudi Mucha, was herding livestock back home from the grazing fields when the lightning struck, killing him instantly.

Police officers visited the scene. Preliminary findings confirmed that the body had visible injuries consistent with a lightning strike.

The scene was processed and documented before the body was moved to Naivasha Sub-County Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending an autopsy and further investigations.

Authorities have urged residents, especially those in open grazing areas, to take precautions during thunderstorms to avoid similar incidents.

The incidents have been on the rise in some areas amid calls to install gadgets to address them.

Elsewhere, a 14-year-old boy died after being electrocuted inside a radio repair shop at Sindo Market in Suba Central Sub-County, Homa Bay County.

Police officers who visited the scene found the body of the minor, a Grade Seven pupil at Sindo Primary School, lying inside the shop.

Preliminary findings indicate the boy had been electrocuted after allegedly breaking into the premises.

Investigations revealed that the shop owner had rigged a live electric wire across the back door as a deterrent against repeated break-ins. It is believed the deceased came into contact with the live wire after gaining entry into the shop, leading to his death.

The scene was processed by officers, and the body was moved to Suba Sub-County Hospital mortuary pending postmortem examination.

Police have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the legality and safety implications of the electrified setup.

Such incidents are caused by illegal power connections and use of quacks for wiring, officials say.
