Luis Eduardo Barraza is an American professional soccer player who serves as a goalkeeper for Major League Soccer club Inter Miami CF.
Born on November 8, 1996, in Las Cruces, New Mexico, he is of Mexican descent and holds dual U.S. and Mexican citizenship.
Barraza has built a reputation as a reliable shot-stopper and leader in the net throughout his professional career.
He grew up in the Sunland Park/Santa Teresa area near the U.S.-Mexico border, where his family’s influence, including exposure to Liga MX, helped shape his passion for the game.
Siblings
Luis has one sister, Daniela Barraza.
Daniela played college soccer as a member of the women’s soccer team at New Mexico State University from 2014 to 2016.
She graduated from Santa Teresa High School, the same school where Luis began his high school soccer career.

Career
Barraza’s soccer journey began in the Real Salt Lake-Arizona academy, where he developed his skills as a goalkeeper and achieved notable success at the youth level, including winning the U-15/U-16 USSDA Championship in 2013.
He went on to play college soccer at Marquette University from 2015 to 2018, where he started 53 games and earned several honors.
In the 2019 MLS SuperDraft, New York City FC selected him 12th overall, marking one of the higher draft positions for a Marquette player.
He signed with NYCFC and made his professional debut in 2020 in a CONCACAF Champions League match.
Over several seasons with NYCFC, Barraza served as a backup and occasional starter, gaining valuable experience and contributing to the team’s success, including their 2022 Campeones Cup victory.
He later moved to D.C. United before joining Inter Miami CF.
Known for his composure and shot-stopping ability, he has also recorded a rare goalkeeper assist in MLS.
Accolades
At Marquette, Barraza was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year in 2018 and earned All-BIG EAST First Team honors that same year.
He also received multiple conference weekly awards and national team of the week nods for standout performances, including key penalty saves in tournament play.
At the professional level, he earned Man of the Match honors for his role in NYCFC’s 2022 Campeones Cup triumph.
Barraza has been part of teams that competed in CONCACAF competitions and has steadily built a solid MLS resume across multiple clubs.
