A 36-year-old man died after he was allegedly attacked by a pack of dogs while exercising along the beach near Sun N Sand Beach Hotel in Kilifi County.

According to police, the incident occurred at about 7.30 a.m. on Tuesday at the shores of the Indian Ocean near Kikambala in Kilifi South Sub-County.

The victim was reportedly taking part in his morning exercise routine when he was attacked by about 15 German Shepherd dogs.

Police said the dogs are alleged to belong to a well-known individual whose identity had not been established at the time the report was made.

He sustained serious injuries during the attack and was rushed to Kilifi Teaching and Referral Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment and further medical management.

He was later found dead in his home. He is believed to have succumbed to the injuries, police said.

A team of police visited the scene as part of the investigations but did not find the dogs. The owner of the dogs was also missing. Police said they were investigating the incident.

Meanwhile, police in Embu County arrested a suspect following the murder of a 57-year-old casual labourer whose body was found inside his house in Mbeere South Sub-County.

The incident was reported at about 1 p.m. on Tuesday after the discovery of a body at Kangungi Village.

Police officers visited the scene and found the deceased, identified as Justin Muchira, lying dead inside a house belonging to his employer, where he lived.

An examination at the scene revealed that the body was covered in blood and had sustained injuries to the face, the back of the head and a fractured left leg below the knee, indicating he had been violently attacked.

The deceased’s employer told investigators that he last saw Muchira alive at around 6 p.m. on Monday.

Police were further informed that at about 3 a.m. on Tuesday, a man identified as Justus Mundia went to wake the deceased so they could travel together to pick muguka (miraa).

He found the house door wide open and Muchira lying unresponsive on the floor of his bedroom.

Crime scene investigators documented the scene before the body was moved to Embu Level Five Hospital Mortuary for preservation and a post-mortem examination.

Police have arrested a suspect to assist with investigations into the killing.
