A 28-year-old man was found dead in an abandoned open borehole in Kibarani Village, Jomvu Sub-County, Mombasa County, on Monday.

The deceased, identified as Sepu Kitsao, was reportedly heading home from a nearby shop when he allegedly slipped and fell into the borehole.

The incident was reported at around 1:45 p.m. on October 12, 2026.

Police officers visited the scene and established the circumstances surrounding the discovery.

The deceased’s mother told police that her son was last seen on Sunday, October 11, at around 3 p.m.

Kitsao lived alone in a house adjacent to his mother’s residence within Kibarani Village.

His body was retrieved from the abandoned borehole, with police reporting no visible injuries.

The body was subsequently moved to Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary for preservation pending further examination to establish the cause of death.

Police are investigating the incident to establish the full circumstances surrounding the man’s death.

And search and rescue operations were ongoing for a secondary school student who was swept away by River Yala while bathing with his brother in Siaya County.

Kelvin Bryon Omondi, a Form Four student at Horace Ongili Mixed Secondary School, reportedly slipped into the river at around 5 p.m. on Sunday, October 11, 2026, before being carried away by the water.

According to police, the incident was reported at Wagai Police Station on Monday morning.

The father told police that his son had been bathing in the river alongside his brother when the incident occurred.

Officers from Wagai Police Station visited the scene at Uriri, approximately five kilometres south of the station, and confirmed the incident.

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear as the search for the missing student continues.

Police said search and rescue operations were ongoing as efforts intensified to locate the suspect.
