Detectives are investigating an incident where a 29-year-old man was found dead with severe injuries to the back of his head at the Vipingo Special Economic Zone in Kilifi South on Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Samuel Lekupe, police said.
Police said the body was discovered lying face down in a grassy area within the Special Economic Zone land after the incident was reported at about 1pm.
Police visited the scene and found the deceased with multiple deep cuts to the back of his head.
About 10 meters from the body, officers found a partly skinned cattle carcass, while the animal’s head was located approximately 1.5 meters away.
The circumstances and motive behind the killing had not been established, police said.
Police said it was suspected that Lekupe may have been attacked while allegedly attempting to steal livestock, although investigations were ongoing and the owner of the slaughtered cow had yet to be established.
The scene was processed and documented by CSI officers before the body was removed and taken to Kilifi Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
Police have launched investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the death and identify those responsible.
Meanwhile, a 26-year-old boda boda rider was found dead with multiple stab wounds along the Timbila-Ziwani Road in Taveta, Taita Taveta County.
The deceased was identified as Clement Mwadime, whose body was discovered on Thursday, September 24, 2026.
Police said the body was found lying along the roadside in Timbila Location after the incident was reported to Taveta Police Station.
Police visited the scene and found Mwadime with several stab wounds to his chest.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the killing could be linked to the theft of his motorcycle, which was missing from the scene.
Mwadime was reportedly working as a boda boda rider.
Crime scene officers photographed and documented the scene before the body was removed and taken to Taveta Sub-County Hospital Mortuary, where it is awaiting an autopsy.
Police have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the killing and the whereabouts of the missing motorcycle.
