A 42-year-old man was hacked to death in an attack in Kamugundho area, Rongo, Migori County.

The deceased identified as Joseph Kitai was found lying on the roadside after his attack. He had a deep cut on the back of his head. He was headed home from a local shopping centre when he was attacked by a gang that was armed with pangas, he said before he died.

He died at a local hospital where he was rushed to.

And a suspect died in police custody after he had been attacked by a mob in an incident in Chesikaki, Bungoma County.

Boaz Mamati, 40, had been attacked by a mob on claims he stole livestock. He was rescued by police and taken to the local health centre where he was attended to and later taken back to the police cells pending arraignment, police said.

On December 29, 2025, police who were on duty at the station found him having breathing challenges and rushed him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy. Officials from the Independent Policing Oversight Authority were informed of the incident and announced an investigation.

Meanwhile, a nine-year-old girl was fatally attacked by a crocodile in Saka area, Balambala, Garissa County.

The deceased was at the River Tana that passes in the area when she was attacked while fetching water.

Locals later retrieved the body from the scene and moved it to the local mortuary after the December 28 incident.
