Microsoft-led group has announced that it will launch a Super Wi-Fi in Nairobi on Tuesday. The launch will be on the sidelines of the Internet Governance Forum meeting which is taking place at the United Nations Office in Nairobi (UNON). This will be the first time Microsoft Launch the “Super Wi-Fi” outside Europe. It is not clear from our sources whether it will be a launch of the test Super Wi-Fi or the permanent offering.

The Super Wi-Fi use the over  300Mhz to 400Mhz of unused Spectrum mostly avoided by the terrestial TV to offer faster internet to the populations. Microsoft led a consortium of corporates including BT and SKY in UK in July to launch the Super Wi-Fi. The company has also been using the 700MHz bandwidth in its Redmond Campus in US since 2008 after FCC agreed to open the unused spectrum.

We have tried prodding for who the MS partners in Kenya will be but we are getting very sketchy information. Who do you think will be Microsoft partners for the Super Wi-Fi launch in Kenya?
